Brief History
In the year of our Lord 2011, on the 12thday of September, Zimbabwe Theological Seminary (ZTS) was born out of a serious concern for sound Theological Education in Zimbabwe and beyond. The opening of Zimbabwe Theological Seminary was aimed at making theological education accessible to all persons, male and female, who are called to the various ministries of the church and the society at large.
Zimbabwe Theological Seminary is a Christian institution shaped by Baptist tradition, piety, ecumenical openness and social concern whose mission is to glorify God by providing quality theological and religious education to prepare pastors, teachers, scholars and leaders for empowering churches and communities in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Theological Seminary has the Board of Trustees at the top of the hierarchy. This Board is the one that sees to it the day today running of the Seminary. It is composed of twelve members from various denominations. The members are fairly spread over the country so they could bring in the needs of the whole Zimbabwean village. The board is the sole owner of the Seminary.
It is of paramount importance to note that the named Seminary is an associate college of Great Zimbabwe University (GZU). As soon as it was established in September 2011, it began seeking associate status with GZU. The programs that are currently offered are Diploma in Religious Studies and Diploma in Theology. This means that these Diplomas are conferred by GZU. The Seminary is looking forward to offering Honours’ Degrees in the long run.
Currently, Zimbabwe Theological Seminary is occupying a two story building formerly Housing and Construction Company Office building at stand 2154 Hull Road, Heavy Industrial Site, Bristol Road, Gweru. The Seminary is close to Grain Marketing Board as its prominent neighbour. At this premise are Offices, Library and lecture rooms.
